All Hail the Queen

The big news at my house is SHE WON!  We're so excited for her.  Here is a picture of her at the ceremony with her three sisters!   They were so excited for her.

Then the cutest thing happened:
This little girl ran over to get her autograph.  This was so up her alley!

My daughter would love to go to Disney College and become a princess...she may be building her resume....

A New Look

Did you notice a new look to my blog?  Well that's what taking a day off from school can allow one to do!  Yes, I'm playing hooky!  (With permission from my principal!)

Why is the teacher playing hooky?  My oldest daughter is nominated for Homecoming Queen at her high school!  This is so exciting for her and the whole family.  Back in high school, I wasn't nominated for anything, so this is new ground for me.  Back in the day (80s) we had a "Homecoming Dance" where the "Queen" was crowned.   Things have changed, at least locally, and this is nomination is for the honor of being the "Basketball Homecoming Queen" and there is no dance.  Which is just fine with my daughter!  17 years old and she has never had a boyfriend!  She is an old soul in  a young body and really thinks "high school dating" is too much drama!  I'd have to agree, but I do wish she could experience some of the drama before she is too far away in college!  I'd like to be here to help her through it.

Earlier this week, we picked out the dress and the shoes...gorgeous!  Her best friend was with us to help with the important decisions.  Her father was fitted for a tuxedo earlier this week, as he is her escort!

So what will happen tonight?  They will be taken with the other 2 nominees to have pictures taken, then to dinner and will arrive at the game at half time.  I'll meet them at the game.  I kind of feel out of the loop a little, but think this is such a special event to have with her dad!  What a great memory!

Any way, I took the day off so I can take her to get her hair done and also to watch the Rally at her high school.  Since I do teach full time, I've never attended a Rally and really want to before she graduates.  So today is the day, and luckily I have a new principal who is wonderful and understands that family is a priority!  (I should really post about the previous principal, but that might be "R" rated!)

So I know this is more personal than school related, but I hope to post pictures of my beautiful girl after the event tonight.

Check back later...

New Items Posted and Freebie?

Whew!  It took quite some time, but I've finished my short vowels games and have posted 6 new products on my TPT site!

It was a long week back!  Unfortunately, my daughter got sick so I had a sub during the week.  I really do dislike being away from my class.  But more than that, I don't like being away from my children when they are ill.  I had no luck finding a sub (long story) so I had to go in on Wednesday, but Thursday I was able to find a substitute.  My poor girl is still not feeling well.  She has had some down time and I've been working hard on my new products (the benefit of staying home)!  I can't wait to use these in my class for my little group that still needs practice decoding!  These games are perfect for the beginning of the year, but I think my intervention kiddos will love them now.  I hope you can use them in your classroom!

Sunday

Vacation is over...

I just returned from a fantastic weekend in Sausalito with my family!  We stayed on the most amazing restored ferry!  This beautiful ferry was built circa 1880 and is full of history.  It was the first passenger ferry in Puget Sound and was originally christened "The City of Seattle."  A 3000 square foot  beautiful floating house complete with a lovely fireplace!  We loved our time and made this our "home away from home" for the weekend.

We left our little boat for a bit to stroll through Sausalito, then we road the Golden Gate Ferry over from Sausalito to SF and enjoyed some yummy clam chowder and sourdough, walked the fisherman's wharf, enjoyed the sea lions' antics and returned via ferry to enjoy an evening of reading and playing games on our little "house boat".
These are the lovely sea lions that have taken over the boat docks at Pier 39!

Now, I have to admit, I can feel panic setting in!  Don't you hate that?!  School begins tomorrow, vacation has ended, and I'm not sure I'm really ready for tomorrow!

I did sneak into my classroom and tidy up a bit, but I don't really feel ready.  It's a real bummer.  If I enjoy my vacation, then I'm not ready for school, but if I get ready for school during my vacation, well, then I didn't really have a vacation.  Any way, I'll be ready...

My big news I want to share with you is...da, da, da, da....
